A winning combination of faith, family, and hard work has enabled General Partition to prosper and grow over the last half-century. Our story began over 60 years ago in May 1965, when James W. Houseman, who worked for a paper broker in Philadelphia, decided to take a chance and go after the American dream. Using all of his savings, James rented a building in Northeast Philadelphia and purchased raw materials and three used converting machines. After he began partnering with several local businesses to create custom packaging solutions, General Partition was born.
James’ dream took off in a major way, and over the next five years, General Partition continued to grow, expanding our workforce from 10 to 35. By 1970, our company had outgrown its rented property in Philadelphia, so James built a warehouse in Croydon, located in the nearby suburbs of Bucks County, PA. In 1981, we expanded our capacities yet again, this time investing in a large-scale building addition for our Croydon facility.
Today, our manufacturing facility — still local to Bucks County, PA — is over 35,000 square feet, with the latest and greatest materials and machinery at our disposal. Our company remains family-owned and operated, with both of James Houseman’s sons, James Jr. and Richard (“Rick”), involved in the business. James Jr. works in the manufacturing department, and Rick is the company president and sales manager. Rick’s son, Richard Junior, serves as our plant supervisor, and Rick’s son-in-law, Tim Rahill, is a member of our outside sales staff.
